The Lost Boys A Memoir of Operation Pedro Pan

November 3, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

$2.00

The Lost Boys A Memoir of Operation Pedro Pan Book presentation by Pedro Pan author Dr. Javier Llorens.

Born in Baracoa, Cuba, in 1950, Javier arrived in the U.S. via Operation Pedro Pan in 1962. A 1969 graduate of Belen Jesuit Preparatory School, he completed his undergraduate studies at Miami’s Biscayne College and thereafter studied dentistry at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Dr. Llorens returned to South Florida and recently retired after many years in private dental practice. Dr. Llorens lives in Miramar with his wife Vivian.

“This private story gives course to an epic tale: The Cuban Children’s Exodus. The universal theme of growing up unfolds in the backdrop of national chaos, family separation, and the brink of atomic Armageddon. A young boy and his friends grow up together for five years in the refugee camps for Cuban children. In this rite of passage into adulthood, they try to make sense of the complex and unsettling world around them. This memoir of Cold War stands unique in the long historical pages of America’s huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”
There will be a discussion panel with the author as well as Pedro Pans Gabriel de Orozco, Gerardo Simms, and Humberto Bugallo, who were the four original “lost boys” in the book.
